Found Sounds ’26

Found Sounds ’26 is a collaborative project funded by NENC ICB. The partners delivering the project alongside are:

Chilli Studios – Newcastle (Lead Partner)

Sound Rooms – Gateshead

Ouseburn Radio – Newcastle

SVP – Newcastle

The project is specifically for people who have experience of Severe Mental Illness (SMI). This means illnesses like: psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorder and some other acute and chronic illnesses.

The idea behind the project is to assist people to find and capture sounds from around their local community, then bring those sounds into AFSC’s studio and create a full, complete piece of music. We will be doing this by offering up to 6 sessions of 1:1 electronic music production coaching aimed at beginners. This will also include a day’s session of field recording.

Once it is mixed and mastered, your music will be played on Ouseburn Radio, released on a short run tape release and there will be opportunity to perform your music later in the year should you want to! This last part is totally not mandatory!

Why though?

The aim of the Found Sounds project is to:

  • Increase socialisation – promote connection and belonging
  • Increase access to the arts – stimulate some creativity
  • Encourage creativity and promote self esteem, self actualisation, meaning
  • Achieve flow state – mindfulness through activity
  • Have a bit of fun making some music!
